Best Time to Visit Tuscany Wine Country
Spring brings green hills, wildflowers, fresh air, and easier travel days. April, May, and early June are beautiful months for winery visits before the strongest summer heat arrives.
Summer is lively, sunny, and full of long golden evenings. It is also busier, hotter, and better for travelers who enjoy energy, festivals, and outdoor dining.
September may be the most magical month for wine lovers. It is harvest season, or vendemmia, when vineyards come alive and villages celebrate grapes, wine, and local food. Visit Tuscany highlights September as one of the best months for wine festivals throughout the countryside.
Fall continues the magic with truffles, chestnuts, olive oil, mushrooms, cooler weather, and harvest festivals. October and November feel slower, richer, and deeply local.
Winter is quieter and more intimate. Some wineries reduce hours, but the towns are peaceful, restaurants feel cozier, and Montalcino hosts Benvenuto Brunello, the annual presentation of new Brunello vintages, scheduled for November 19–23, 2026.

Val d’Orcia sits in southern Tuscany, between Siena and Monte Amiata, and includes some of the most iconic towns in the region: Pienza, Montalcino, San Quirico d’Orcia, Castiglione d’Orcia, Radicofani, Montepulciano, and Bagno Vignoni. Felt personal, quiet, and genuine. The welcome was warm, the setting peaceful, and the tasting gave a real sense of family tradition and organic farming. The Owners are so warm and very welcoming, we didn't want to leave. If your looking for that Agrotourismo feel and personal experience with the owners this is it.
Poggio Alloro delivered one of those postcard Tuscany moments: farm-to-table food, wine, olive groves, and a panoramic view of San Gimignano. Traditional Tuscan dishes paired perfectly with each wine, and eating on the terrace while looking across the vineyards made it difficult to leave. It felt less like a tasting room and more like spending an afternoon at a countryside estate.
The terrace overlooking San Gimignano was breathtaking. Sitting there with a glass of Vernaccia while the medieval towers rose above the vineyards was one of those moments where time simply slowed down. The tasting itself became much more than wine. Fresh olive oils, balsamic vinegar, cheeses, truffle products, and local specialties were paired with each glass, each one explained with obvious pride.
The winery is beautifully positioned among rolling vineyards, with uninterrupted views toward the Tuscan hills. The tasting was relaxed and personal. There was no pressure, no crowds, and no feeling of being rushed through a schedule. Instead, each wine was introduced with stories about the vineyard, the harvest, and the family's approach to winemaking.
